Agroecology and Nature-Based Solutions for Sustainable Food Systems in Africa
1st – 3rd July 2026. Accra, Ghana
The EU-funded project CIRAWA has been collaborating with farmers and stakeholders in four West African countries (Cape Verde, Ghana, Senegal, and The Gambia) since 2023, to develop and share agroecological and nature-based solutions that promote sustainable and resilient farming.
The upcoming scientific conference aims to bring together diverse actors (researchers, farmers, NGOs, policymakers, development partners, and other stakeholders) to share knowledge, discuss strategies, and strengthen collaboration for accelerating the agroecological transition across the continent.
By disseminating this knowledge, the initiative supports Africa’s shift toward agroecology in line with AU and AU-EU policies on climate resilience, biodiversity, and food systems transformation.
The Agroecology Conference will bring together participants from a wide range of backgrounds, including:
• HORIZON Europe projects
• Research paper presentations
• Civil society engagement session
• CIRAWA policy brief presentations
• Policy debates with stakeholders and researchers
• Hands-on tool demonstrations
• Field visits to agroecological sites
The conference is led by the CIRAWA project consortium. Local CIRAWA partners, UDS and FIDEP, will serve as local organizers. FARA (the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa) and CORAF (the West and Central African Council for Agricultural Research and Development) will co-organize the conference. It will also receive support from other EU projects such as CANALLS, PrAEctiCe, and NATAE, as well as other international institutions. The conference remains open to additional collaborations—if interested, please find the contact details below.
