After the island of Maio, it was the turn of the island of Santo Antão to receive training on Financial Management, aimed at farmers and breeders. Between 10 and 15 March, the training sessions were divided between the classroom and visits to the participants’ agricultural plots.
The training was carried out as part of the CIRAWA project – Agroecological Strategies for Resilient Agriculture in West Africa, and was taught by trainer Hélder Fernandes.
During the week of training, various topics were covered that are essential for the sustainability of agricultural businesses, as well as technical assistance on their plots, allowing the trainer to get to know the reality of local production better and identify specific challenges.
At the end of the training, the trainer and the trainees defined three essential steps for the sustainability of agricultural businesses:
- Recording activities (sales/expenses);
- Savings;
- Separating personal expenses from farm business expenses.
In Cabo Verde, the CIRAWA project is present on the islands of Santo Antão and Maio, and is coordinated regionally by ADPM Mértola, in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment – MAA, AJACM – Casa do Meio Young Farmers’ Association and the Eastern Plateau Women’s Association – Amupal – Casa das Caldeiras.
CIRAWA is funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme.
